Leadership Update: A Letter from Kara McCall, Incoming Executive Director

June 20th, 2025

Dear Red Wiggler Community,

It is with immense humility, joy, and commitment that I step into the role of Executive Director at Red Wiggler.

I first discovered Red Wiggler in 2009, during my senior year of college – and I was amazed to find an organization that included so many of my interests and passions. I leapt at the chance to intern that summer, diving headfirst into the rhythms of farm life and the vibrant, welcoming community that surrounded it. The experience stuck with me. I kept coming back to volunteer, always with the hope that one day it could become more than just a seasonal connection.

In early 2011, that hope became reality when I stepped into the role of Volunteer Coordinator. Over the next decade, my work at Red Wiggler evolved – stretching across program development, fundraising, and strategic planning, even as I relocated across the country and shifted to working remotely.

In the years that followed, I branched out in new directions: launching my own doula practice, leading member operations at a health tech startup, and navigating the transformative journey into motherhood. But no matter where I was or what I was doing, Red Wiggler remained a meaningful part of my life and shaped my values, my work, and my sense of community.

Coming back to Red Wiggler is a true honor. I’ve seen the power of this place up close, and I marvel at the impact we are able to have—both here on the farm in Germantown, Maryland, and throughout the country through the Care Farming Network.

Red Wiggler has always been more than a farm. It’s a model for what is possible when we put inclusion, equity, and care at the center of our work. As we move forward, I am committed to honoring the vision Woody set in motion, while leading Red Wiggler into its next chapter. We will continue to build meaningful employment for adults with developmental disabilities, pioneer Care Farming nationwide, and nourish our community through opportunities and fresh vegetables.

Thank you for your ongoing support, your belief in our mission, and your trust in this transition. I’m looking forward to connecting more with our wonderful community and welcome you to reach out to me with any questions or ideas you may have.

With gratitude and excitement,

Kara McCall
