Recognition of Red Wiggler’s Efforts

Red Wiggler Community Farm was recognized for its efforts 2 times recently!

First, Marc Elrich, the County Executive of Montgomery County, MD, presented a certificate to Red Wiggler and approximately 20 other organizations on October 8, 2021 “in Recognition and Appreciation for your partnership and dedication to the health and well-being of our neighbors in the UpCounty region of Germantown, Montgomery Village, Gaithersburg among others.” Here is a photo of the certificate:

Second, on October 26, 2021, there was a proclamation presentation recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by the Montgomery County Council. During this Zoom presentation, 7 organizations, including Red Wiggler Community Farm, were recognized for their work and efforts. Along with Sunflower Bakery, UpCounty Community Resources, The Arc Montgomery County, The Treatment Learning Centers (TLC), TransCen, and the Caroline Center, we are so proud to have been selected to join Councilmember Evan Glass and the rest of the Montgomery County Council to celebrate NDEAM.

Proclamation
of the Montgomery County Council

WHEREAS, National Disability Employment Awareness Month is held every October to recognize the important work taking place to ensure that individuals with disabilities have full access to employment and community involvement; and

WHEREAS, our thriving network of local non-profit organizations are committed to creating rich and rewarding opportunities for people with disabilities, while also fighting the stigma that exits within our communities at-large; and

WHEREAS, we must continue working with organizations and businesses to close the unemployment gap among people with disabilities as they currently face an unemployment rate of 11 percent in Montgomery County compared to four percent with people who have no disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Montgomery County is appreciative of our critical partnerships with local disability employment organizations that are educating and bringing awareness to all residents about issues facing communities with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Disability Employment Awareness Month honors the important contributions of people with disabilities in our community, and those who support, encourage, and employ them.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the County Council of Montgomery County, Maryland, hereby proclaims October 2021 as

DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH
