CRAFT Summer Solstice Conference at RWCF

July 08th, 2013

We had a blast hosting over 50 area farmers, farm interns and farm enthusiasts on June 24th. CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) is a community organization that hosts farm tours and potlucks in the Chesapeake Bay area throughout the growing season. This year, Red Wiggler hosted the 2nd Annual Summer Solstice Conference. From cultivation techniques to yoga and fermentation to irrigation, conference presenters shared their expertise with participants.

We welcomed farmers from Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC and West Virginia. Red Wiggler staff, growers and volunteers facilitated and participated in the conference.

Our outdoor classroom area was put to good use for a Native Pollinators workshop. Complete with native insects buzzing by.

The solar house was a great spot for both a kimchi workshop and a kitchen knife skills workshop.

Our keynote speaker was Carole Morrison, an eastern shore farmer featured in Food Inc. who transformed her conventional poultry farm to a free range, pasture raised egg production farm. A great inspiration to a barn full of new farmers!

The CRAFT Summer Solstice Conference was a great day to bring the local farming community together!
