Kara Desmond – Education & Volunteer Manager
Kara’s primary responsibilities include managing our Education and Service Learning Program, providing opportunities for area youth and adults to learn about farming, food and the environment through volunteer activities in an inclusive setting. She is constantly looking for ways to connect visitors with the source of their food, mainly by making sure they get their hands dirty!
Kara began at the farm in 2009 as an intern and continued as a volunteer until she was hired in 2011. Her past experiences of teaching, coaching Special Olympics, and working in the arts all shape her approach to working at Red Wiggler.
She graduated from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education and Fine and Performing Arts. Originally from Massachusetts, she now lives in Washington, DC and enjoys the balance of farm and city life. Off the farm Kara enjoys sewing, cooking, biking and renovating her home with her husband.
